Over the years, our company has been very comfortable with presenting a witty face to the world – from our choice of name to the imagery that people associate with Bulldog.

We developed this visual pun to commemorate our 20th anniversary on February 10th, 2010. The piece fuses a crossword puzzle with our logo to create a playful visual short-hand for what Bulldog has done over the last 20 years.

The starting place for this solution was a concise thank you message from a happy client – the crossword puzzle graphic just seemed to manifest itself. Finding branding related terms to fit in the spaces was rather more challenging.

Bulldog’s clients received commemorative posters and limited edition T-shirts, packaged in labelled, PVC containers. A lavishly printed compendium using this imagery, will also be sent out in a few weeks.

Foxglo (pronounced Fox-glow) was launched to address European consumer adoption of basic green ideas and a shift from use of incandescent light bulbs to energy efficient, compact florescent lighting.

Bulldog’s remit was to help the brand provide assurance of energy saving benefits, empower consumers to make technical comparisons with traditional incandescent bulbs and to promote correct waste handling for all Foxglo products.

Since many European countries have announced intentions to make Eco-friendly bulbs compulsory, campaigners have been calling for warnings and disposal advice to be printed on bulb packaging. Many of the leading European brands in the category have failed to do this, despite the risks posed by a product that requires special waste handling and increasing media pressure to do so.

Bulldog developed a name and visual identity that suggest the primary brand benefit with a view to penetrating the market quickly. The packaging solution, using bio-degradable inks and 100% recycled stock, attracts, directs and educates consumers – enabling informed purchasing decisions that will contribute to their well-being, as well as that of the environment.

Retail shops are all familiar with the problem of left over stock - especially after big holidays, like Xmas. The usual approach would be to sell the merchandise at drastically reduced rates in seasonal sales.

When giftware chain - Eyespy approached us with this problem, we suggested using a different approach. By combining different items into loosely related groups, housing them in this custom made package and selling them as stand alone sets, our client not only drastically reduced his excess stock but also turned a healthy profit.

The Bakke family have harvested and canned seasonal fruit in the Trondheim area of Norway for over 150 years. Their delicious jams are made in traditional open pans using fruits native to the area - such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and multe (cloudberry). For years, the jams were stored in glass Kilner style jars, adorned with hand printed labels and sold at farm produce markets in districts surrounding Trondheim. However, demand for Bakke jams reached a scale that necessitated more sophisticated production, marketing and distribution methods and today, these jams compete with hardier (but less authentic and tasty), mass produced, jam brands on the shelves of Trøndelag's supermarkets.

Bulldog was commissioned to develop an identity and packaging for this range. The result is a set of utterly simple but chic label designs, colour coded in distinct, fresh shades that help consumers easily distinguish between 6 different fruit flavours. Sourcing unique specialty food-grade glass jars can be quite a challenge but the attention placed on this has paid off handsomely ensuring that the product looks as good on the outside as it tastes on the inside.
